Cape Coral is a large municipality located in Lee County, Florida, on the Gulf of Mexico.
Founded in 1957, Cape Coral was developed as a pre-platted, master-planned community. Cape Coral has grown to a population of 162,852 by the year 2009. Cape Coral incompasses an area of 120 square miles and is the largest city between Tampa and Miami. Cape Coral is a principal city in the Southwest Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population estimate for the Cape Coral was 645,899 for 2009.

Cape Coral is known as a 'Waterfront Wonderland", including over 400 miles of navigable waterways. Cape Coral includes more miles of canals than any other city on planet earth.

Fort Myers is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida, United States. Its population was 62,298 in the 2010 census, a 29.23 percent increase over the 2000 figure. The city is one of two major cities that make up the Cape Coral-Fort Myers Metropolitan Statistical Area, the other being Cape Coral. The 2010 population for the metropolitan area was 618,754.

Established in 1886, Fort Myers is the historical and governmental hub of Lee County. It is the gateway to the Southwest Florida region, which is a major tourist destination in Florida. The winter homes of Thomas Edison (Seminole Lodge) and Henry Ford (The Mangoes), which are both primary tourist attractions in the region, are located on McGregor Boulevard in Fort Myers.

On August 13, 2004, Fort Myers was hit hard by Hurricane Charley, a Category 4 hurricane that made landfall north of the area. In 2005, Hurricane Wilma struck south of Naples, but caused extensive damage nonetheless in Fort Myers and its southern suburbs.

Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is located southeast of the city in South Fort Myers, near Gateway and Lehigh Acres.
